Million Word Website

First thing, you probably don’t need a million-word website. In the majority of cases, you can serve your searchers through blog posts and pages that answer queries and sub-queries.

If you think, after reading the below information, that this technique would suit your industry/use case, get in touch to discuss.

pSEO Website Builders

Using programmatic SEO techniques, we’ve built websites with a combined word count of over half a billion words. These techniques only work for a fraction of ideas and industries.

An example

To explain how programmatic SEO works (pSEO), let me use an example. You’re running a company that offers life insurance. The PPC costs are through-the-roof and the SEO competition for keywords is brutal. You’re looking at a way to serve your customers and also build a long-term traffic source for your website.

Some people would work on a local SEO strategy and target “[town/city/suburb] insurance broker” as their keywords. You get the names of the 20 surrounding suburbs and start writing generic content on how you’re the best insurance broker in that suburb. The problem with this strategy is that it is too generic and will likely yield tiny results (if any).

With the purpose of helping your clients, you decide that you want to educate clients on the insurance application process, serving a specific search intent. From your insider insurance knowledge, you know that you target people who are aged 18-60 years old, you know that people in different age groups have different insurance loadings/application requirements etc and you know that you want to target people in a specific country (for this example, we’ll use Australia).

You start building a dataset (spreadsheet) where a row might show (fictional information below):

  • Age: 55
  • Sex: Male
  • Country: Australia
  • Tests That May Be Required: Cholesterol, STDs, Glucose levels, High Blood Pressure
  • Possible Loadings: High Cholesterol (200%), High Blood Pressure (120%) etc
  • Average application times: 30 days
  • Average cost range: $200 – $400pm
  • Other factors: ABC, DEF, GHI etc

By combining this information with wording around insurance, you can create pages with potential page titles like “How to apply for life insurance as a 55-year-old male in Australia” that would walk someone through the process and statistics of applying for life insurance and would include the information above in context. As you’re targeting 18-60-year-olds, male and female, you’ll have over 80 pages of information related to all the age groups that you target. If each page had 3,000 words of specific information from your dataset and general insurance application information, you would end up with 240,000 words of extra content. Extending this use-case, if you also offered income protection, TPD, trauma and other cover, you could end up with one million words of content that solves specific search intent.

Using AI for content enhancement

For some of our projects, we use a combination of datasets and AI-created content. We created a website for upcoming podcast creators, targeting all the major industries in industrialised countries. You can see the information included in a sample podcast idea page for an Architectural Draftsperson includes all the information to help someone get ideas for their own podcast, including name ideas, episode ideas, guest ideas, monetization ideas and more. Using datasets and AI content, this website has a word count of 9+ million words.

Requirements

To work on your Million Word Website, we’ll need to approve your idea to ensure that your low-tail keyword targeting pages actually serve search queries (only a fraction do). All of our sites in this space are built using WordPress and take 2-4 weeks to complete. Your costs will be the cost of the build (varies per project) and ongoing hosting.
